Gallery: On Board Shell's Kulluk Oil Rig

The Kulluk oil rig, owned by Royal Dutch Shell, ran aground on New Year's Eve in the Gulf of Alaska, near Kodiak Island. Coast Guard experts and other personnel are formulating a plan to rescue the rig and tow it to safe harbor. Photographer Ed Keating and I were onboard the rig in the Arctic Ocean in the fall, when the Kulluk was preparing an exploratory well that was to be completed in 2013. The accident puts that plan in jeopardy.
